About Us

The Kathryn Chapman School of Dance

The Kathryn Chapman School of Dance was established in the autumn of 2016 when the former dance teacher at St Peter's, Chloe James, decided to relocate her school to the Isle of Wight. Kathryn is hugely grateful to Chloe for presenting her with the opportunity to continue teaching these classes.

Covering all abilities and from age 3 to adult the school follows the IDTA (International Dance Teachers Association) syllabus. Pupils are invited to take medal and grade examinations and are also given the opportunity to perform at the school’s main show every other year.

I am a licentiate of the International Dance Teachers Association and have been a member of the association since 1996. I was previously a teacher for the Allyson Cawood School of Theatre Dance in SE16 where I was involved in teaching children and adults for exams and shows. My association with Chloe James began after Allyson sadly passed away and I brought my daughter Connie to the Chloe James Academy of Dance where she continued to thrive and develop as a dancer.

In addition to children's classes I also teach Zumba and Zumba Gold here at St Peter’s. I also teach fitness and dance to adults in a variety of other settings including tap at St Francis Xavier College in Balham, aerobics, body conditioning and Pilates Matwork at Tooting Leisure Centre and Zumba®Fitness at Balham Leisure Centre, Southwark Adult Learning Service in Peckham and JAGS Sports Club in Dulwich. I am a certified Zumba/Zumba Gold/Zumba Kids/Zumba KIds Jnr Instructor and a CIMSPA certified group exercise instructor practitioner. Please click here or come and talk to me if you are interested in any of these classes!

Ruby Francis-Wint - I am very fortunate to be assisted in our Blue, Green and Pink classes by Ruby who is a senior dancer with the school. Ruby achieved a Distinction for her BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Performing and Production Arts, following the dance pathway, at the BRIT School in Croydon in 2023. In 2022 she danced with Little Simz at the Brit Awards and danced at Move It 22 and 23 with Artistry Youth Dance.  In September 23 Ruby began her full-time training on the Foundation Musical Theatre course at the International College of Musical Theatre in Hackney.

Connie Chapman AIDTA - Connie achieved her IDTA Freestyle Associate qualification with Chloe James and continued dancing while studying zoology and freshwater and marine ecology at Queen Mary University where she choreographed, directed and performed for the contemporary and modern jazz teams. Connie is currently overseas helping to save the world's oceans but she helps me teach whenever she can.
